Operational Context

Anzio Fire Brigade Station is a standalone building with a net floor area of 480 m², built in 1989. The two-storey facility includes offices, a control room, service areas, vehicle garages, dormitories, a gym and changing facilities. The building operates 24/7 to support firefighting and emergency response services.

The energy efficiency project was funded through PREPAC  the Italian national programme supporting the energy renovation of Central Public Administration buildings, introduced to support the achievement of national energy efficiency targets. The retrofit strategy was based on a comprehensive energy audit, which identified the windows and the lighting system as the main areas of energy inefficiency.

The energy assessment estimated that the selected measures would reduce natural gas consumption by 18%, electricity consumption by 48%, primary energy use by approximately 37.5 MWh per year, and CO₂ emissions by around 7.2 tonnes per year.

Efficiency Investments

Replacement of windows and French doors with new high thermal performance units  with double glazing and low-emissivity coating; installation of solar control films on  glazing surfaces with east-to-west exposure.
Installation of solar thermal system for domestic hot water production.
Replacement of existing fluorescent lighting with high-efficiency LEDs technologies.
